Aim:

 

In Leiden the Netherlands, LexisNexis© produces digital intellectual property (IP) data, with a focus on patent data. We acquire raw IP data and IP related data from multiple patent offices in multiple formats from all over the world and bring it together in one database in one format. The raw data from the suppliers is also used as a basis to create new added value data through the application of different standardization and enrichment techniques. Currently the LexisNexis database holds the most comprehensive set of intellectual property data in the world. The data is used in several LexisNexis products, including TotalPatent One©, a platform designed to offer patent professionals a single tool for searching, displaying and analyzing global IP data.

 

The IP data specialist will be part of the Content department, the bridge between the product directors (who design and specify the products) and the operational production organization in Leiden (which produces the data). The Content department takes care of the acquisition, production, management and provisioning of IP data to the different products of the LexisNexis IP portfolio. The IP data specialist is an expert on IP data, is familiar with the IP data supply channels, is aware of how the data is used in products, and knows the production processes and tooling. The IP data specialist instructs the production, development and quality assurance departments by written specifications and is responsible for defining added value processes.

 

The IP data specialist owns assigned data related projects and acts as subject matter expert. In this role, the specialist supports IP data development and expansion, and pro-actively supports the manager Content Strategic Sourcing and Provisioning to achieve the goal of helping the company maintain its global leadership position in intellectual property. The specialist is responsible for ensuring the overall integrity and functionality of the content and for translating the wishes of the product directors into specifications used by the production organization in Leiden. Communication with the product owners and the production, IT development, quality assurance and customer support departments is essential.


 

Key responsibilities and activities

·        Lead and contribute to all phases of projects with respect to content addition or value addition and execute timely project delivery. Define project scope and undisputable deliverables in collaboration with the product owners, analyze raw data sources, specify data mapping processes, define business rules, define added value rules, share the information, plan and control, maintain, communicate and sign off. Deliverables are project briefs, project plans, specifications, user stories, sign off reports and other documentation.

·         Take responsibility for the integrity, correctness and consistency of the implemented processes and data, monitor continuously and act promptly and effectively on internal and external signals and own observations of disruptions in processes, to help ensure data is processed in the most effective manner and produce the best quality output IP data.

·         Administrate projects and effectively report the project statuses to the manager. Report in time on potential bottlenecks and suggest solutions. LexisNexis is an agile organization and uses Kanban managing systems.

·         Support the whole organization by acquiring a broad knowledge on intellectual property in the assigned area of expertise and beyond (research of data sources and competition, keep up-to-date with IP developments).

·         Supports customer support where required as subject matter expert and resolve reported issues.

This function requires a service-oriented attitude. The ideal candidate has to be a skilled communicator (in speaking and writing), capable of collaborating with managers, developers, quality assurance and production.(S)he has to be both self-managing and a team player. LexisNexis is working with complex IP data with a very small bandwidth for errors, so we are looking for a reliable, persistent and highly analytical mindset with a focus on delivery.

 

Required are:

 

·         Affinity with digital data handling and IT production processes

·         Proficient knowledge of English (in speaking and writing)

·         Proficient knowledge of the Office tools (esp. Excel, Word and PowerPoint)

·         University thinking level

Pre:

·         Knowledge of intellectual property

·         Knowledge of agile managing methods

·         Knowledge of other languages

·         Knowledge of Regular Expressions

·         Affinity with programming

 

 

Affinity with digital data handling and IT production processes is necessary. Proficient knowledge of English (in speaking and writing), as well as of the Office tools (especially Excel, Word and PowerPoint) are a requirement. Knowledge of intellectual property and agile managing methods are a pre. University thinking level.
