The Business Development Global Inside Sales role is part of the Global Sales Effectiveness & Services (“GSE&S”) team within Elsevier Research Solution Sales (“RSS”) responsible for supporting sustained short-term and long-term revenue growth through our global Inside Sales channel.

This is achieved in several ways: analytical insights to steer sales efforts, fact-based approach to identifying sales opportunities, enabling the sales teams to monetize the full market potential through the development of tools, ensuring an effective sales setup, driving for improved sales effectiveness and productivity.

The Business Development Manager role is aligned with the RSS strategic priorities and focused on a specific (sales) team’s contribution to these priorities – the Global Inside Sales team in this case, supporting, and working closely with the Global Inside Sales VP and the overall RSS Management Team.

Your responsibilities:

  • Delivers and provides sales management with relevant sales metrics and shares insights to improve team performance and productivity.
  • Helps establish market share goals, metrics and relevant KPOs to help drive segment or solutions specific goals. 
  • Identifies go-to-market opportunities and risks where Inside Sales can most effectively contribute
  • Builds solid understanding of Sales Manager Productivity to inform current and future year expectations and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Works with Global Inside Sales VP to establish annual territory alignment and quotas for all Global Inside Sales roles
  • Represents Inside Sales in cross function initiatives. E.g. new product launches, business model changes, pricing projects.
  • Leads or supports key competitive projects to improve Elsevier’s competitive position in our various markets.
  • Works with Product and Marketing teams to drive usage growth, address usage risk and improve account growth.
  • Picks up new projects as priorities emerge throughout the year, supports on smaller ad-hoc activities and acts as a thought-partner and business advisor to the VP, and Regional Sales Managers.           


Our requirements/preferences:

  • Master level education required, MBA desirable.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of work experience in Sales (Operations), Marketing, Finance, Business Development or Consulting.
  • Proven problem solving (e.g. structuring) and analytical track record.
  • Strong communication skills and proven track record in working effectively in cross-regional, cross-functional teams.
  • Relevant domain knowledge a strong plus.
  • Experience with the development and go to market process of a new product, service, and/or pricing model a plus.
