The Associate Product Manager will work closely with various groups to translate customer needs into product requirements. S/he will help implementation and delivery of data science driven shared product capabilities within Research Products which are an integral part of our Elsevier Platform. S/he will be developing new features and capabilities making use of big data technology and data science by working closely with the data science and data engineer development team(s). A key aspect of the job is to deliver personalisation features, including recommender technology, across multiple Elsevier products and the Consoles platform. S/he will work closely with the Scrum of Scrums representative to enable stakeholder management and representation to peers, managers and executives across the company and to external audiences.

Key responsibilities:
Customer Focus
  • Has a good understanding of the research community.
  • Develops and builds awareness of key customer needs and use cases, as relayed by others.
  • Participates in customer discovery activities with the product team and gives input for solutions.
  • Helps others to deliver on existing customer commitments.
  • Regularly reads competitive announcements and events.

Data-Driven Decision-Making & Analysis

  • Seeks out data in partnership with others to support decisions.
  • Demonstrates ability to review data from predefined dashboards and shares with team members for decision making.
  • Understands key metrics for their feature area and major influencers of these metrics.
  • Has knowledge of hypothesis-driven evaluation strategies and builds awareness of product evaluation techniques, including AB testing for interactive products.
  • Is comfortable with data science technology, big data and using existing software packages and languages (e.g. Excel, R, Python).

Product Delivery & Development Lifecycle

  • Demonstrates an understanding of the customer experience, and the components of a good product.
  • Writes clear and concise product requirements that meet guidelines in a timely and effective manner.
  • Recommends and plans use of feature functionality.
  • Distributes information to stakeholders and collaborators to educate on product issues.

Strategy & Commercial Acumen

  • Develops an understanding of and executes defined product strategy.
  • Proactively asks questions about strategy, vision and goals.

Technical Skills

  • Learns the company technology stack at a high level, for his/her feature area. Preferred knowledge of computer science and/or data science.
  • Ability to write detailed technical user stories and present to internal stakeholders.
  • Learns about technologies to assist day-to-day tasks.

Requirements for the role:

  • 0-2+ years in technology Product Management
  • Education at University degree level in the areas of Technology and/or Science or engineering discipline.
  • Recognized as co-owner of a product or sizable feature of a complex product.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks, projects, and priorities.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills.
  • Has knowledge and preferable experience in an Agile Scrum delivery
  • Understands the company technology stack at a high level
  • Understands emerging technologies and how they may be applied within the organization.
