The Farmers Weekly's website offers daily news and market prices while offering a database of essential reference guides and how-to articles, from safeguarding herd health, maximising crop yields and servicing farm machinery to staying ahead of the latest legislation.


On social media it is the single largest UK publication in terms of followers on Twitter, Facebook and YouTube, with an active and engaged community.


Farmers Weekly is looking for an enthusiastic, energetic individual who can get to grips with producing content for the technically driven arable sector.




It is an exciting time, with new technology transforming the way we grow crops. Your job is to seek out and develop interesting story ideas to tight deadlines to ensure Farmers Weekly remains the first choice for farmers who want to keep abreast of these developments and what they mean for their business.


A typical week as an arable reporter might involve interviewing a farmer, scientist or agronomist, shooting a video on farm and tweeting live from a conference.


A formal journalism qualification is desirable, but candidates with good writing and communication skills, an understanding of the challenges and opportunities in the UK arable sector and the ability to develop new skills will also be considered.




Part of a team of four based in one of our UK office locations, you will be writing for www.fwi.co.uk and Farmers Weekly.


You will be required to represent Farmers Weekly at events both at home and abroad, so must be comfortable talking to farmers, agronomists, researchers and the wider industry.



Key responsibilities:


Researching and writing original arable stories for Farmers Weekly magazine and its website

Generating story ideas of interest to arable farmers

Editing copy and proofreading pages

Building relationships with the arable community

Managing freelance contributors

Producing videos and using social media to promote articles



Key requirements:


Knowledge of the arable industry, or a willingness to learn about it

Ability to produce accurate and informative copy to deadline

Good interaction with farmers and industry

Good time management and organisation skills

Able to collaborate with colleagues across the wider team     

Interest in online journalism, including video and social media
