Your role

As a R&D New Solutions Manager you will be responsible for building the strategy of the Product Line for our Commercial Drug Development and Biology related products. The main responsibility will be to support the PharmaPendium' drug development platform and its Elsevier Life Sciences Intellectual Properties -owned databases, by ensuring  continued development to meet market segment needs. This means that you will need to have a clear understanding of the products and the end user needs in order to develop and improve them. You will identify, pilot and support the deployment of these ideas with the support of the teams around you.

Your responsibilities

Ensure that there is a clear and substantiated Drug Development and specifically Pharmapendium strategy which is fully aligned with the broader life sciences strategy and is consistent with Elsevier Life Sciences Intellectual Properties and RELX strategic imperatives. Ensure pre-clinical and clinical drug development business opportunities are assessed and prioritized and that objectives are established accordingly by working closely with Head of Strategy, New Solutions.


Provide domain and market expertise to support Elsevier product development and go-to-market activities in Comm. Drug Development.  Propose, pilot and test concepts for the enhancement of Comm. Drug Development products and improvement of their users' benefits (Pre-Clinical/Clinical user group). Analysis and recommendations will include: evaluation of needs, competitive analysis, value drivers, differentiation and positioning.


Monitor Elsevier activities in relation to Drug Development content assets to ensure adherence to agreements.  Provide domain specific guidance and support to the Enabling Technology & Innovation Senior Manager to develop and maintain appropriate quality/excerption guidelines, methodologies and protocols.


Ensure Elsevier Life Sciences Intellectual Properties remains connected to relevant key opinion leaders and retain a good understanding of changing market needs within the academic and industrial institutions. Work with Advisory Board Manager to identify, recruit and establish regular  meetings with a Drug Development Advisory Board.

What you should bring
  • Educated to PhD level in  pharmacology, biology, biochemistry or a similar, closely-related discipline
  • Extensive knowledge of academic and/or industrial research workflows and use of Pre-Clinical/Clinical information in this context.
  • Thorough understanding of the Commercial Pharma market and competitive landscape for Pre-Clinical/Clinical-related information solutions.   Experience (hands-on preferred) with Pre-Clinical/Clinical databases and software solutions and an interest in related market trends.
  • Excellent communication skills in English including verbal, written and presentation skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to review, interpret and present complex data to a high standard.
  • Strong interpersonal, influencing and networking skills.
  • London would also be considered as a location
