This team provides decision support and best practices in cancer care management. A former subsidiary of UPMC, one of the nation’s leading integrated healthcare delivery and financing systems, Via Oncology helps cancer centers demonstrate the value of their care to patients, referring physicians and payers by developing and implementing clinical pathways in collaboration with its network of more than 1,500 US cancer care providers.

 

 


The Software Engineering Lead position serves as a subject matter expert for a specific team of Software Engineers. In addition to writing code on complex systems and applications, this position provides direction on project plans, schedules, and methodologies. The position has direct reports. It offers a great deal of autonomy, this is the “lead” role; so, code as you wish and the rest will follow. For the most part someone is not going to tell you “don’t use that” or “do it this way”. You will be afforded a nice balance of hands on coding and mentoring less senior developers.

 

In this unique opportunity, you will:
• Serve as the initial point of escalation for software development issues within specific area of responsibility.
• Interface with other technical personnel or team members to finalize requirements.
• Write and review portions of detailed specifications for the development of system components of moderate complexity.
• Complete complex bug fixes.
• Work closely with other development team members to understand moderately complex product requirements and translate them into software designs.
• Successfully implement development processes, coding best practices, and code reviews.
• Operate in various development environments (Agile, Waterfall, etc.) while collaborating with key stakeholders.
• Resolve complex technical issues as necessary.
• Mentor and/or train entry-level software engineers as directed by department management, ensuring they are knowledgeable in critical aspects of their roles.
• Carry out management responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies, procedures, and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.
• Ensure all staff is provided with training and resources needed to perform their jobs to the most outstanding degree possible. Ensure all staff is provided with frequent feedback and coaching to meet and exceed individual and team performance goals consistently.
• Manage and encourage new ideas from staff to foster improvements through innovations.
• Empower the staff to be accountable and responsible for their own actions and decisions.

• Current hands on development in a C#   .Net Agile development environment
• Ability and interest in leading, guiding and mentoring a small team of technologists. Must possess the ability to lead by example.
• Interest in utilizing technology to help us lead the way in the advancement of science, medicine, health and research.
