The Grant Warehouse project will rebuild the primary data acquisition systems for funding information within the Funding Platform of Elsevier’s Researcher Operating System.  The new Tech team of Grant Warehouse will build the data harvesters, the operational management UI for the Operations team to undertake data cleansing that feeds into the data lake links to the entity hubs. This role will need to work closely with all the other teams in Funding product portfolio because they will be re-engineering the primary data sources for the products under development.

We’re looking for a Senior Frontend Engineer to join the Grant Warehouse.  If you’re a passionate, focused and driven engineer who isn’t afraid of making decisions quickly, building things you’ve not built before, untangling legacy code and hitting your sprint commitments we want to hear from you.   • You’ll work in a mixed discipline Agile scrum team of individuals centred around a common goal — to make sharing versioned research data easy, enjoyable and empowering.
  • You will be building a RESTful API to power our user-centered website which adheres to standards and is progressively enhanced to offer a rich experience.
  • Working in 2 week sprints with daily standups, grooming, planning and retros, you’ll take your turn to run sprint demos for stakeholders.
  • You’ll work face to face occasionally with university and researcher customers on site.
  • You’ll be supported by a Lead Data Engineer, Data Engineer, 2 x Backend Engineers and a Quality Engineer
What should you bring?
  • A positive, constructive approach with an emphasis on collaboration and flexibility.
  • A passion for software development.
  • Willingness to learn new things and come up with practical, simple solutions to technical issues.
  • Expert knowledge of React and JavaScript and its frameworks – Redux, Webpack, Grunt, Enzyme and Mocha, ES6
  • Exposure to any JavaScript frameworks would be of interest
  • Knowledge with HTML & CSS
  • Experience working with version control systems (ideally Git)
  • Experience with CI (ideally Jenkins)
  • Knowledge of a back-end OOP language, ideally Java or C# but any back-end experience would be of interest
  • Strong communication skills and fluency in English
  • Cloud experience (ideally AWS) and SQL experience (ideally MySQL)
