Elsevier is looking for a dynamic Senior Product Manager with proven product management expertise. Our exciting and industry-changing Adaptive Learning products are providing our client universities and their students with innovative ways to access learning material. Collaborating directly with the Director, Product Operations you will be leading Elsevier Nursing and Health Education's Adaptive Learning product strategy and execution!! If you are passionate about building great products that wows customers, this is your opportunity to make a difference in the lives of students pursuing a career in the field of Nursing & Allied Health. This is a lynchpin role and requires consideration for long-term product quality, customer and end-user satisfaction, and calls for a highly detail oriented individual with serious entrepreneurial drive.


Your responsibilities:

  • You will be responsible for the product management, planning and execution throughout the product lifecycle, including: the definition of product opportunities, defining the product release vision, gathering and prioritizing customer requirements, and working closely with internal groups to ensure that profitability and customer satisfaction goals are met

  • You will own one or more product(s) within Elsevier’s Adaptive Learning product portfolio

  • You will ensure that your product line supports the organization’s overall strategy and mission

  • You will be responsible for developing a commercially successful product strategy and lead project execution with minimal guidance that is based on qualitative and quantitative customer understanding

  • You will be sees as a critical stakeholder for feedback on new feature ideas


What you’ll do:


Customer Focus:

• Maintain close contact with customers to gain a sense for where the market is heading given multiple considerations

• Understand competitors and regulatory environment

• Segment markets and understands needs of those sub-segments in greater detail    


Strategy & Commercial Acumen:

• Develop product vision and roadmap aligned with business strategy and communicate across all critical stakeholders. Use knowledge of competitors to inform product decisions and roadmaps.

• Evangelize and socialize product strategy, vision and value proposition with internal and external stakeholders. Understand and communicate the need to show a return on investment

• Write or support business cases for investment

• Understand how to use data to drive commercial decisions and growth opportunities for the product


Product Delivery & Development Lifecycle:

• Have a thorough understanding of the broader product experience

• Drive key end-to-end lifecycle components, from planning to release

• Have a thorough understanding of the company agile product processes and software development lifecycle (SDLC). Help drive solutions for complicated design challenges

• Assist peer product owners with writing clear and detailed user stories for complex features or products, requiring little clarification

• Manage product without direct supervision, involving manager or other senior leaders only when appropriate


Data-Driven Decision-Making & Analysis:

• Leverage metrics to track progress on customer needs and ensures that product efforts move those metrics

• Be proficient at pulling and accessing data from multiple sources, and managing through data ambiguity

• Consider various options to balance complex conflicting priorities

• Identify the most important data to consider and sets KPIs, priorities and dashboards

• Be comfortable to take an analytical, data-driven approach for situations where rigorous data sets are unavailable


Go to Market & Product Marketing Lifecycle:

• Develop clear go to market launch plans through coordinated development with external customer facing teams such as marketing and sales

• Develop or support pricing strategy as needed

• Be independently accountable for portions of launch and strategy execution as assigned

• Drive process and external communication for products that will be sunsetted, including plan for migrating customers

• Support and participate in business strategic planning, contributing to sales and business development strategy           


Technical Skills:

• Understand company technology stack at a high level, for the broader product

• Utilize or extend the company's platform and underlying technologies to create new product features

• Speak knowledgably with tech and data counterparts about development approaches in consideration

• Learn about new technologies to support new product development efforts

• Be comfortable analyzing data using existing software packages (e.g. Excel)        


Focus on Results:

• Communicate expectations clearly and follow through on commitments to ensure they are successfully completed and goals are achieved

• Promote a strong sense of urgency for reaching goals

• Build commitment in others for their individual and team objectives

What you’ll bring to the team:

  • Minimum 2-3 years of product management experience with strong technical background working with platforms.
  • Proven experience managing existing product(s) and releasing new products or product features to the market, from collaborative conceptualization to execution to post-release management.

  • Meaningful engineering engagements that lead to positive software outcomes.

  • Proven agile and iterative software product development expertise.

  • Excellent oral and writing communication skills.

  • Familiarity with APIs, microservices, cloud-native web services and analytics driven platforms

  • Bachelor’s degree (computer science, information sciences, or engineering degree preferred)

  • Experience with LTI, LMSs, and educational technologies.
