The vision is to provide integrated solutions supporting closer interaction among the stakeholders in the research community (researchers, institutions and funders) addressing thereby the current frictions in the existing research information systems. This is an excellent opportunity to work closely with these sectors to develop what will significantly improve the research process.

 

Delivering Funder and Funding solutions and ensuring their adoption is critical for the overall adoption of Elsevier’s overall products and tools for researchers and institutions. Such adoption requires direct and close engagement with Funders through development partnerships and strong relationships. It also requires close collaboration with relevant business units looking after researcher and institution needs.

 

This role, Director of Product Management, Funding Products within the Funding, Content & Analytics (FCA) team, will lead our efforts in defining and executing Funding Portfolio product and funding content strategy. Together with Business and market development and Research Technology, the role will define the scope and design the solutions based on market input through a robust engagement/partnership program/plan with the relevant stakeholders (Funders, Researchers and Institutions). With our data specialists, you will play a key role in contributing to the Elsevier wide data platform activities.

 

Specifically, the role's main activities will focus on providing clear leadership and business direction to product and content managers, software and backend developers, UX designers and quality engineers for a successful and impactful product delivery. For this, you are expected to utilize world class development processes, tools and communication techniques. In this role it's critical to measure the success of the products through measurable objectives and key results (OKRs). To attain a successful execution of the product strategy, you will need to embed product management excellence and be a role model for developing strong relationships with key partners. Together with Business Development, Strategy and Marketing, the successful candidate will also support the development of a clear and compelling solution value proposition.

 

The candidate is required to have clear and powerful communication skills in order to ensure close alignment across various teams that are critical for a success product development and delivery. These teams comprise groups within FCA Research Technology but also beyond including Sales, Marketing, Analytics, Operations and the Global Scientific Network. You will also interact with peers and colleagues in teams looking after Researchers and Institutions.

With customer focus and stretched end goals in mind, the person will work closely with the Business Development and Go-To-Market Director to monitor the Funding market to gain market insights. Such monitoring will include among other things competitive intelligence, technology and data capabilities that are necessary for Elsevier to accelerate its market penetration, sustainable revenue growth and competitive advantage through the funding solutions.

You will report to the VP Product Management in the Netherlands, Amsterdam.

 
 

What you should bring:

                       
  • A clear passion for product development, management and delivery. A drive to want to be the best at what we do and to love customers’ challenges.
  • 10+ years of experience in product development and product rollout, including data products as scale.
  • Deep knowledge of information systems and software needs and evolution within market
  • Customer focus and end results driven with passion for winning
  • Ability to create product deliverables such as wireframes, prototypes, and requirements specifications
  • Strong market analysis, opportunity identification and anticipating disrupting dynamics
  • A persuasive personality able to mobilize the necessary resources to achieve stretched goals
  • Strong tenacity and resilience to ambiguity, complexity and resource challenges. able to navigate the organization under such circumstances for achieving objectives
  • Clear communicator and bridges builder between various teams for successful delivery
  • Has eye for details while keeping the overall strategic perspective ensuring adequate and Clear messages for the appropriate audience
  • Deep knowledge of the research landscape globally, particularly the research Funding space is a plus
  • Familiar with product management and delivery in a commercial context     
  • You need to be able to travel 15-20% of your time
